Hand Generator Lesson Plan (Paired with EV3 Core kit)

This add-on set allows students to learn about and understand renewable energy sources, including: solar energy, wind energy and hydro energy. As well as the functionality and capability of of solar cells, wind turbines and hydro-electric power plants. 

The Renewable Energy Add-On Set can be used with the Simple & Powered Machines Set and LEGO MINDSTORMS Education EV3.

The accompanying curriculum pack includes new lesson plans and problem-solving activities, as well as teacher guides and student worksheets. This set includes a solar panel, turbine blades, a motor/generator, LED lights, an extension wire, a LEGO:registered: Energy Meter, and building instructions for six real-life LEGO models.

When connected to the MINDSTORMS EV3 brick, the energy meter works as a sensor and can be used for both programming and data logging. Students will learn about and understand renewable energy sources, including: solar-, wind- and hydro-energy. As well as the function of solar cells, wind turbines and hydro power plants.

They reflect, design and re-design the functionality of their models, and present their findings. Students build the models together, each focusing on their part of the model - strengthening their 21st-century skills in collaboration and communication.
